It was my first time to do surfing... and I'm so lovin it!
My UPLB Orgmates organized a Surfing weekend at Baler... the first time I saw and heard about it, I was too excited because I really want to learn... and then I signed up..... It was almost a month of preparation.. trimming down some fats, and buying the things I need for surfing. And these are must haves:
1. Rashguard - I know it is not that cheap, but SM dept stores have good quality at cheaper price.
2. Swimsuit - I was able to buy a very cute swimsuit at Market! Market! Mall... and it's not expensive
3. Sunblock - This is another expensive must have but SPF 50 will do
4. Sunglasses - It was a pity for me because I forgot the sunglasses I bought the day we went to Baler..
5. Snacks/Water - Going to Baler is a looonnggg way.... So prepare something to eat while on the way...
Then, March 17 came. Meeting place was McDonalds Pueblo at 2am. The van and the drivers arrived late so we had a delay. Another delay was the reroute... We were supposed to go on a shortcut, on the ranges of Sierra Madre.... it was rough road and at one point, the road getting to our destination was closed.. so we drove back and took the highway to Cabanatuan... and it took us another 2 hours so instead of 6 hr, it became 8 hr long drive... We arrived in Baler at 11am... we immediately checked-in at Bahia de Baler and then had lunch (we were all hungry this time) at Bay's Inn resto.... One good thing in Baler is that the meals are not expensive.. but the serving time is too long... hahaha... so order your food early...Then, after lunch, we took a nap because we were all tired with the long trip, and another thing is that, we don't wanna do surfing at noon time... haha...
so we decided to do surfing around 3-4pm... I volunteered for the first 5 to be with the 1st batch of surfing instructors... at first, the instructors will do orientation (right positions on surfing board, what to do and what not to do). And after that, it's the time to do the SURFING! weeee.... I can tell you that it was hard at first, hard to get up on the surfboard and also the waves are huge.. so you should know how to swim and always pay attention to your instructor.. :)
All in all experience is so much FUN! I would definitely go surfin again! I wanna try La Union next time.. :)
